2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Review NJ

Completely redesigned for 2014, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is a powerful, sturdy vehicle featuring a generous passenger-friendly interior, which can accommodate up to eight people. Powered by a 3.5L engine, which is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive system, the 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is ready to turn any adventure into a pleasant and safe journey. Proposing an ingenious combination of a SUV and a crossover, this vehicle is about to take over the role of Toyota's traditional SUVs, which are slowly falling out of favor.

The 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid proposes a refined interior, which includes an ergonomic dashboard, comfy seats and a leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), hands-free phone, multimedia controls and multi-information display. Besides these, the Highlander Hybrid puts at passengers' disposal smart storage compartments and a series of useful features described under the Technology section.

Engine and Driving Performance

Equipped with a 3.5L V6 hybrid engine, the 2014 Highlander Hybrid produces 280 horsepower, surpassing its challengers. In addition, the power-to-weight ratio of 16.58 lbs/HP makes this vehicle as quick as any other SUV/crossover in its class.

The new Hybrid is also easy and fun to drive. That's because its independent MacPherson strut front suspension and redesigned double-wishbone rear suspension with stabilizer bars; electronically controlled variable transmission with sequential shift mode; electric power steering; electronic on-demand AWD system with intelligence; power-assisted ventilated front disk brakes; and integrated regenerative braking translate to short stopping distances, high cornering limits and superior handling.

The new, superb front grille underlines the Highlander's dramatic style, while the LED daytime running lights mounted on it not only improve visibility, but also highlight the irreproachable line of this vehicle. The integrated roof rails make this car complete, enhancing cargo capacity and adding to the aerodynamics. In addition, the car has projector-beam halogen headlines with auto on/off function, fog lights, power outside mirrors with blind spot warning indicators and memory function, power tilt/slide moonroof and UV-reduction glass windshield and windows.

Gas Mileage and Range

Since Toyota's 2014 Highlander Hybrid features an overall 28 MPG (28 city/highway) - an impressive fuel efficiency advantage of 24% over its competitors.

On the highway, the 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is expected to cover 482 miles on its 17.2-gallon tank (25 miles fewer than the class average). In city driving, the car covers the same number of miles (104 miles more than its rivals).

In addition, the Evaporative Emission system helped this car win the title of Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV).

Technology

Considered a technological wonder, this vehicle comes along with three-zone automatic climate control with air filter, separate ventilation system for second and third rows, individual temperature settings and integrated backup camera with dynamic gridlines. The 12-speaker Etune Premium JBL Audio system with an 8-inch high-resolution touch screen and a rich suite of applications, including navigation, incorporates an AM/FM CD player with MPs/WMA playback function.

Coming down to connectivity, the Highlander Hybrid provides auxiliary audio jack, USB 2.0 port with iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, and advanced voice recognition function, which makes possible hands-free calling. The dashboard includes a 4.2-inch LCD screen, which displays information about cruising range, fuel economy, energy, AWD torque distribution, average speed and cruise control.
