2016 Toyota Avalon Review

Looking for the perfect sedan to get around South Brunswick Township, Plainsboro Township, or New Brunswick, NJ? The right full-size sedan should have a few important things. It should be a smooth drive, have plenty of room, and have plenty of creature comforts. Combine that with legendary Toyota reliability, and you have the 2016 Toyota Avalon.

What's New for 2016?

The Avalon had only minor changes for 2016. The Touring trim now comes with a sport-tuned suspension, and there's now an XLE Plus trim between the XLE and the XLE Premium trims.

Trim Levels and Power Train

The Avalon is a full-size five-passenger sedan that comes in five trim levels for 2016: XLE, XLE Plus, XLE Premium, Touring, and Limited.

The Avalon is powered by a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine capable of putting out 268 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes paired with a front-wheel drive six-speed transmission. As of now, these are the only engine and transmission options for the Avalon.

In testing, the Avalon XLE was able to go from zero to 60 in 6.4 seconds. This is very quick for this class of car and certainly makes for a fun ride.

Safety Features

All of the standard safety features that you have come to expect are included in the 2016 Toyota Avalon. It comes standard with anti-lock disc brakes, Traction Control with Stability Assist, and a full range of airbags, including front and rear seat side, side curtain, and front knee airbags. It also comes with a standard rearview camera.

Safety options include blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. There's also the Toyota Connect service, which offers roadside assistance and can help to locate your vehicle if it's been stolen. There's also an automatic collision notification.

Other options include a front collision warning and collision breaking. The Avalon also includes the option for Lane Keeping Assist.

All of this safety equipment earned the Avalon five stars in government crash test ratings for overall crash protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety scored the Avalon with good, the highest possible rating.

Interior Design

A full-size sedan is expected to have plenty of room on the inside, and the Avalon doesn't disappoint. There's plenty of room in the front for the driver and passenger. The seats are comfortable and have plenty of padding for long trips, plus there's plenty of room in the backseat for additional passengers. This is a car made for both road trips and errands while still having everyone enjoy the experience.

The Avalon's 7-inch touchscreen provides plenty of technology, including iPhone pairing and Siri Eyes-Free.
