2016 Toyota RAV4 vs 2016 Kia Sportage

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 and the 2016 Kia Sportage are both excellent vehicles that have a lot to offer in terms of performance, features and safety. If you're looking for a new vehicle in South Brunswick Township, Plainsboro Township or New Brunswick, you may be considering both the Toyota RAV4 and the Kia Sportage, but which one is the right option for you and your family?

At Dayton Toyota, it's important to us that our customers are educated when it comes to vehicles. We want to make sure you have a car that will best fit your lifestyle. To help you make an informed decision, we've created a comparison guide that details each vehicle. Keep reading to find out more about the 2016 Toyota RAV4 and the 2016 Kia Sportage.

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 is a compact utility vehicle with two powertrains: the base engine is a 176-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-4 paired with a 6-speed transition, and the RAV4 Hybrid that yields 194 horsepower from the 154-horsepower 2.5-liter inline-4 paired with Toyota's two-motor Hybrid Synergy Drive system.

No matter which powertrain you choose, the 2016 RAV4 handles well and rides low, with optional all-wheel drive to improve handling and traction in slippery road conditions around South Brunswick Township, Plainsboro Township or New Brunswick.

The driving comfortability and handling of the 2016 Sportage has been an issue among many models in the past, but its optional turbocharged four-cylinder gives it a boost of power. The 2.4-liter base engine yields 182 horsepower, but choose the Sportage SX for a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces 260 horsepower.

Exterior and Interior

While the exterior of the 2016 RAV4 only receives a mild upgrade, the interior of the 2016 RAV4 has undergone many updates. These improvements include better-quality materials, soft-touch surfaces, added trim around dashboard and console elements, a digital display and available 7.0-inch touchscreen display.

The 2016 Kia Sportage has sacrificed interior space for a clean design. While it's visually appealing, the interior is small and the Sportage is one of the smallest in its class.

The 2016 RAV4 comes in four versions with the conventional engine: LE, XLE, SE and Limited. The RAV4 Hybrid comes in two versions that can be considered equivalent to the XLE and Limited. The base LE includes power locks, windows and mirrors, air conditioning and other basic features. The limited adds top notch features such as a leather wrapped steering wheel, SofTex synthetic leather material seats, keyless ignitions, a power driver seat and heated front seats.

The 2016 Sportage comes in three different versions: LX, EX and SX. The base is equipped with air conditioning, power windows, locks and mirrors, Bluetooth and USB/iPod connectivity. The EX adds 18-inch wheels, satellite radio, steering wheel audio and phone control and optional navigation. The SX trim comes with a 2.0-liter turbo engine standard, as well as a power driver seat, a cooled glovebox, navigation and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter.

The 2016 RAV4 also makes improvements on its safety features for this year and receives top scores from the IIHS with a Top Safety Pick+ award and a top five-star overall rating from federal regulators.

While the 2016 Sportage does include safety features, they don't hold up. It received only "Good" ratings from the IIHS and "Poor" in the overlap frontal test.

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 is the better, not to mention safer, choice when compared to the 2016 Kia Sportage. Come to Dayton Toyota to test drive your 2016 RAV4 today.
