The Toyota Prius: Some love it, some hate it - But, one thing is for sure: it's one efficient auto.
That's because when Toyota designed it over a decade and a half ago now, it designed it strictly for practicality - hence its wedge-like design which lends itself to superb aerodynamics and subsequent efficiency. But, Toyota, being the humble automaker it is, recognizes that not everyone appreciates a vehicle that is just practical, and to this end, the Prius might do well with a little makeover.
So that's exactly what it's getting.
That's right, the flagship Toyota Prius is heading for a revamp, and Toyota is hoping it will be just what the venerable auto needs to attract a new type of customer. Alleged augmentations include: a new lower roof, lower waistline, rear-shifted A-Pillar and forward-shifted roof. Overall, experts are speculating that the new model may take some cues from the Toyota NS4 concept which first appeared this year at the North American International Auto Show.
And aesthetic changes aren't all that's in line. In fact, in a recent Motor Trend interview a Toyota engineer who wishes to remain anonymous stated, "... like the first two Priuses, the next Prius will employ the most advanced technology we have, and while delivering class-leading fuel economy, it will redefine the 'hybrid' as we know it."1
