There is excitement in the automotive community as Toyota is introducing the newly redesigned 2014 Toyota Tacoma.  This pickup truck has been a solid performer for Toyota since 1995 and the 2014 is expected to be no exception.

Under the Hood

Toyota offers 2 engines for the 2014 Tacoma,   Drivers may opt for the robust 4.0L V6 that delivers 236 HP and 266 ft/lbs of torque or the smaller 2.7L 4 cylinder power plant.    The 2.7 features DOHC with 16 valves and has been rated at 159 HP with 180 ft/lbs of torque.  A Tacoma with either engine is classified as a low emissions vehicle and comes with a heavy duty battery.

The engines are partnered with the choice of a 4 speed or 5 speed automatic Electronically Control Transmissions with intelligence.   This transmission will have total control of the hydraulic pressure of the clutch and engine torque to give maximum performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

A Comfortable Ride

Although the Tacoma is a rugged truck, there are a number of options to improve the comfort of vehicle occupants.    Toyota's Entune audio system, 4 way adjustable bucket seats and tilt/telescopic steering wheels with audio controls are all available options. There are two 12 volt power outlets and an analog instrument panel.

A 2014 Toyota Tacoma review would not be complete with mentioning the truck's safety features.   Toyota developed the Star Safety System which includes stability and traction control and electronically enhanced braking systems.  Six airbags contribute the Tacoma's safety.  Active headrests help reduce injuries in the event of a crash and a backup cameras work to reduce accidents.

Make the Truck Your Own

There are many ways to create the ideal Tacoma.  Drivers may choose the regular, access or double cab with a choice of 8 exterior colors.  The 4x4 Tacoma has a transfer case that is electronically controlled to disburse power to the wheels as needed.    Buyers have a choice of 8 exteriors colors that are paired with three interior colors.   Chrome exhaust tips, bed extensions and hood protectors can be added to the truck.    Some drivers may opt for a bedliner to protect the truck's finish or cargo nets to keep payload in place.   A first aid kit is offered to help with emergencies on the road.

It's Not Perfect

While the Tacoma has many outstanding features there are a few areas where it falls short of the competition.   Horsepower and torque are slightly lower on the Tacoma and it has less towing capacity.   A compass and cruise control are optional while these features are standard on the other makes of trucks.

Reading a 2014 Toyota Tacoma review will give shoppers useful information about the truck.   But to takes a test drive to fully appreciate what the 2014 Toyota Tacoma has to offer.   Dayton Toyota is the place to get behind the wheel of the 2014 Tacoma.
