Technology is quite incredible, and it moves at an astounding rate. Only a few years ago, the idea of a self-driving car would have been deemed impossible. Today, we can tell you that it's a reality that could be destined for cars across the country. Specifically, Google has developed a new system for self-driving cars, and they've put it to use in a test fleet of six Toyota Prius models.
And how has their testing gone so far? Flawlessly. The test fleet has covered more than 200,000 miles without a single accident, and Toyota recently upped the ante by allowing a legally blind man to take a seat behind the wheel. Steve Mahan joined a couple of Google employees in taking the self-driving Prius for a test drive, and to say that he loved it would be an understatement.
Mahan navigated the streets with ease. He even managed to take a detour to grab some fast food on his trip! It goes without saying that a self-driving car system like this would provide handicapped individuals like Mahan with a level of independence that they may have otherwise thought lost. And it's something that we'd love to see implemented in more new Toyota models in the near future.
For now, however, driving remains something you'll have to do with your hands. Of course, if that's the way you prefer it, then feel free to arrange a test drive at Dayton Toyota, located at 2291 US Route 130 to experience the latest Toyota technology.
