If you're an avid Toyota enthusiast, you'll remember the last time the Surpa had a presence in the U.S., which was almost 20 years ago. Since the sporty model's exit in 1998, rumors have been constantly circulating about a successor, and it appears that the latest reports may prove to be true.
Specifically, the Japanese automaker has been dropping hints left and right that the Supra could be making a return. Members of the Toyota team have implied that the automaker could use the Detroit Auto Show venue in January to reveal a brand new concept car that would be a Surpa successor and full of shock factor.
Back in 2007, Toyota unveiled its FT-HS Concept, which was expected to be the next-generation of the Surpa, however the economy took a dip and resulted in the project being shelved. It is expected that such a concept would feature a hybrid powertrain that is capable of generating about 400 horsepower to compete with rival models.
Toyota refused to confirm or deny these rumors, but the good news is that we won't have to wait too long for the Detroit Auto Show next month, where we will know for sure. Be sure to stay tuned to our blog by subscribing to future updates and Toyota news through your RSS feed.
