There are plenty of family-friendly holiday events in South Brunswick if you just know where to look. Whether you love to go to the theatre or spend time in the community, there's something for everyone around town. Here are six events in the area this holiday season.
'Twas the Night Before Christmas at the Kelsey Theatre, 1200 Old Trenton Road. Based on the famous poem by Clement Moore, the Kelsey Players will bring to life the story about Santa Claus' magical midnight visit on Christmas Eve. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to the Marines' annual Toys for Tots holiday collection. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, students, and children. For tickets, call the Kelsey Theatre box office at 609-570-3333, or order online. The shows will take place on December 5 at 7 pm; December 6 at 11 am, 2 pm, and 4 pm; and December 7 at 2 pm and 4 pm.
Family Chanukah Party at B'nai Tikvah on December 17 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. The event admission is $10 per family or $18 per family and pizza sponsorship. Including latkes, pizza, and holiday treats, you'll be well fed before the congregational candle lighting. Bring your family menorah or Chanukiyah to get involved, and they'll provide the candles. They'll also hold a Chanukah sing-along with the preschool children, religious school students, and Sons of Tikvah band.
The Barnes & Noble store in North Brunswick has a calendar full of story times, which, in December, are filled with holiday books, including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Honeky Hanukah, and The Polar Express.
Holidays Around the World at the New Brunswick Free Public Library is a family-friendly event where you can enjoy yummy foods and crafts celebrating the many countries of the world. With learning activities on four major holidays-Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwaanza, and Three Kings Day-children and families will have the unique opportunity to come together in an environment of acceptance and understanding. The event will take place in the Carl T. Valenti Community Room on December 20 from 2 pm to 4 pm.
The Brunswick Square Mall will hold their usual Make a Date with Santa hours, which are going on now, until December 24. Specific hours are posted on their website, including special hours for photos of your pets with Santa. If you'll be braving this event, make sure you're prepared to entertain the kiddos in the long line. To avoid the lines, try to go at a time that's less busy, such as a weekday morning.
Holiday are about fun for the whole family, and that's the goal of every holiday event in the South Brunswick area. Be sure everyone's in a good mood before heading out, so you know the whole family will have a great time. And with any of these events, be prepared to take pictures. You'll want to remember these times for years to come and so will the kiddos.
