It Wasn't Always Cars

With the AA Sedan's release in 1936, Toyota began its career as an automobile company in earnest. In 1933 company began an automobile department. From there, the company worked on precepts for its earliest models of vehicle. In 1950, in the shadow of a financial crisis, the company began Toyota Motor Sales, its sales outreach program.

By keeping everyone in the loop and rewarding the most effective ways to develop and construct vehicles, Toyota has consistently dedicated itself to being the best it can be. The company even won the Deming Application Prize for quality control in 1965 because of this commitment to awesomeness.
In 1982 the modern Toyota Motor Corporation formed through the merger of Toyota Motor Sales and the original Toyota Motor Co., further solidifying the business model. The financial perspective cleared up considerably at that point, allowing people to more easily afford the vehicle they want.
Coming to America
For many years Toyota had nothing to do with the United States and rarely extended beyond its home in Japan. In 1957, however, the company began to ship the Toyopet Crown to the U.S. and explored this new market. From the end of World War II, the Japanese sought to emulate and exceed the high standards that the U.S. had established. In 1984 Toyota began to work jointly with General Motors to produce in the U.S. at a higher level.
