If you were to guess which car, out of every single model sold in the United States, was the most American, which would you guess? Alright, alright, the headline and the tweet are sort of a giveaway here -- but it wouldn't have been the Toyota Camry, would it have?

There's a good chance you might have picked a Ford, or a Chrysler -- an American brand. Nope. Not anymore, anyway.

Long gone are the days when Toyota was mainly selling imports. Today, the majority of new Toyota vehicles sold in South Brunswick are assembled and manufactured at one of Toyota Motor North America's 10 U.S.-based plants. Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK), where the Camry is built, supports a full-time staff of nearly 8,000 people, making it a major job-creator, especially in the manufacturing segment.

"This recognition from Cars.com is a tribute to Toyota employees, not only those at the plant who build the Camry, but the broader Toyota team who design, engineer, market and finance the vehicle in the United States," said Bob Carter, Toyota senior vice president of automotive operations. "We also support local suppliers and economies, and we have invested more than $6 billion into our Kentucky operations alone, which is growing with our new production engineering campus under construction there."
