YOUR GUIDE TO TOYOTA DASHBOARD LIGHTS

With owning a Toyota, there are a few things to keep in mind. When driving, you may notice a dashboard light come on. Depending on the light, the problem that goes with it could be minor or severe, and may require Toyota auto service. Here is a list for Toyota drivers in the New Brunswick, South Brunswick and Plainsboro Township area that will help you understand what these lights mean.

  • ABS -The ABS light represents the anti-lock/anti-skid brake warning system. This light will come on to indicate that your speed sensor or your anti-lock brake system is not functioning properly. There are many reasons that this light may come on.  A less serious factor that may trigger this light is the fact that the ABS wheel sensor might be dirty.  When the ABS light comes on, you should schedule auto service with your dealership to examine the system and determine the cause.
  •
  • Charging System-When this light goes on, it is indicating that the car is running solely on electrical power, and the car will only run for little bit until the engine dies. This light should come on for a brief few seconds when the car is started, but it will soon disappear. If the light does not appear during the start of ignition, a bigger problem may be on the horizon.
  •
  • Electrical Power Steering-This light will go on when there is a failure with the Electrical Power Steering System. It is recommended that you pull over and turn your car off. Wait a few minutes, then restart your car. If the light still appears, then you should contact Dayton Toyota service center to fix the problem.
  •
  • Low Oil Pressure-If this light appears, it means that your oil is low. The constantly moving parts in your car need oil to run smoothly. If this light comes on, pull over to the side of the road. If the car is out of oil, restarting could cause irreparable damage.
  •
  • Low Washer Fluid-This light simply means that the washer fluid is low.  The car will still run, but use your windshield washer fluid sparingly until you can schedule an appointment at you service center to refill the fluid.
  •
  • Maintenance Required-When the "MAINT REQD" light comes on, it just means that the car has been driven a certain amount of miles and may require an oil change or a checkup.
  •
  • Slip indicator- This light will appear if the vehicle is in danger of slipping or if the wheels are spinning. The light indicates that the VSC/TRAC systems are working.
  •
  • SRS Airbag indicator- When this light appears, it is simply letting you know that if you have a passenger, their airbag has been activated.
  •
  • SRS Warning- This light indicates that there is a malfunction with either the SRS airbag system, the front passenger occupant classification system or the seatbelt pretensioner system.
  •
  • Tire Pressure- This light lets you know that there is low tire inflation pressure, and you'll have to add air to your tires soon.
  •
  • TRAC Off indicator- When this light appears, it is letting you know that you disabled the TRAC system. This occurs when the vehicle is stuck in the snow or mud, and turning off the system allows more power to go to your wheels.
  •
  • VSC Off indicator- When this light appears, it is letting you know that you disabled the VSC or TRAC system.
