Earlier this summer, we told you a little bit about some of the Toyota "100 Cars for Good" finalists that were competing for the chance at a new Toyota that would help them accomplish daily tasks at their not-for-profit organizations. The first 50 of 100 businesses that will get the new Toyota model of their choice have been announced, and we'd like to take just a minute to tell you more about them and how they'll be using their new car.
The Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey in Camden provides a home-away-from-home to families of critically ill or injured children, and something as simple as a trip to the grocery store can seem impossible during this tough time in their lives. As such, volunteers use the vehicles to transport family members to and from hospitals, to the store, or to the airport during their stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
The Girl Scouts of Kentucky's Wilderness Road Camp will use their new Toyota Tundra to carry program equipment, gear and supplies; pick up and dispose of trash; be a reliable vehicle in case of emergencies; and to haul heavy equipment needed around the camp. The camp itself has provided a unique opportunity for young girls and women to learn vital teamwork and life skills while also building their confidence and social skills. More than 3,000 girls and adults visited the camp in 2011.
Started in 2009 by two inspired elementary school students, the One More Generation (OMG) organization in Fayetteville, Georgia works to promote environmental issues and protect endangered species. Olivia and Carter Ries work closely with the Plastic Bag Coalition to reduce disposable plastic bag use. The young team will use their new fuel-efficient vehicle (with adult drivers, of course) to travel to volunteer activities and conducting business on behalf of their clients: endangered species and the environment.
These are just three of the 100 non-profit organizations that will benefit from a new Toyota vehicle. Imagine all the good things they'll be able to do without worrying about how to get where they need to go? The possibilities are endless.
Stay tuned with us to learn more about the other winners - the contest is up at the end of the summer, but there's still time to vote! Head over to facebook.com/carsforgood to check out the last fifty finalists.
