As of late, Toyota has been charting a course to many new frontiers. A while back, we told you that the Japanese manufacturer was testing a car that can drive itself, and more recently, about their plans to send a talking robot into space. Now, more in the terrestrial vein, Dayton Toyota has heard that the automaker has planned to enter the H2 Fuel Cell market in 2015.
Word on the street is that we can expect the car to be unveiled at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. Although we have no idea yet what the FCHV-adv (Fuel Cell Hydrogen Vehicle - Advanced) will look like, we've heard from Bloomberg that the car might be available for lease as soon as the 2015 model year--meaning we'd see it in mid- to late-2014.
It's speculated that Toyota will be producing 100 of these models, and their estimated miles-per-gallon will be around 300. Pricing will be around that of the competition.
With all the success that the Japanese automaker has had with their hybrid vehicles, it's no surprise that they're forging out into the FCHV market as well. From what we can tell, with the Department of Energy working to expand the availability of hydrogen refueling stations, it may not be too long before Toyota's FCHV-adv will be available to a wider market.
Of course, you can keep tabs on our blog for more information about this new vehicle. In the meantime, we have a whole lot full of eco-friendly new Toyota models for you to choose from! Swing by our South Brunswick showroom to learn more.
