At Dayton Toyota South Brunswick, NJ, we're all about helping our customers maintain their vehicles, whether new or used. Keep your car in "lot condition" by utilizing a few expert interior and exterior cleaning tips. Check it out:
Exterior
- Where to Wash: Wash your vehicle in a shaded area for best results, as you'll want to work with a cool surface. Washing a hot car surface results in soap drying too quickly, leaving stains and making more work for you!
- Pre-Soak: Give your vehicle a thorough rinse before washing, as this removes animal and insect remains/excrement among other hard-to-wash stains.
- Windows: If using ammonia-based products to clean car windows, be sure not to get the product on your car's interior, as ammonia will crack and otherwise damage leather seats. An effective DIY recipe for cleaning windows is a solution comprised of 1 cup rubbing alcohol, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, and 1 cup of water. Use the solution on mirrors as well.
- One Thing at a Time: Wash the exterior of your car using a mild soap and a sponge or car wash mitt, and concentrate on one section at a time. Begin with your roof and then move down to your hood and the rear section of your car. Clean the upper sections next, and finish with the lower portions.
- Rinse, Rinse, Rinse: Remember to rinse your sponge or mitt with a garden hose after each time you use it to avoid spreading dirt around your car and to keep your bucket of soapy water clean.
- Wheels: Wait until your wheels are completely cooled off to wash them, especially if using chemical cleaners. Hot wheels will vaporize the cleaner, which you will subsequently inhale.
- Rinse and Dry: Give your car another thorough rinsing after cleaning the exterior, and dry it with a clean, dry rag. This avoids unsightly water marks.
Interior
- Seats: Slide seats forward to clean all dirt and debris that has accumulated underneath.
- Flooring and Cloth Seats: We at Dayton Toyota South Brunswick, NJ, recommend deep-cleaning car carpeting and cloth seats using a carpet-cleaning machine.
- Leather and Vinyl Seats: If you have leather or vinyl seats, use a conditioning product to keep them in good shape after going over them with a vacuum to remove dirt and debris.
- Air Vents: A professional cleaning job always includes air vent cleaning! A long-bristled paintbrush (such as the one artists use) is ideal for removing vent dust.
- Crevices: Use your vacuum's crevice tool attachment to clean hard-to-reach places such as cup holders, the area under the dashboard, window edging, door pockets, the instrument panel and the area between the console and the seats.
- Seat belts: Clean your seat belts using a soft-bristled brush and a clean rag. Create a cleaning solution comprised of 1/2 gallon of warm water and 1/2 gallon of mild laundry detergent.
