At Dayton Toyota, your safety is important to us. So to help our South Brunswick Township, Plainsboro Township, and New Brunswick customers learn more about vehicle safety, we took a closer look at some of the Toyota Highlander safety features.
Named a Top Safety Pick Plus by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2015 Toyota Highlander is one incredibly safe vehicle. Features such as ventilated disc brakes and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System help drivers and their passengers stay out of harm's way while on the road.
Star Safety System of the Toyota Highlander
Using six different safety features, the Star Safety System is still only a fraction of the Toyota Highlander's total set of safety technology.
As part of the system, Traction Control and Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control help keep the driver in control and the Toyota Highlander on the correct driving path. These two systems are especially useful when driving in slippery conditions.
Should you ever need to stop suddenly, the anti-lock brake system will pump the brakes quickly to prevent wheel lockup, while Electronic Brake-Force Distribution directs braking power to where it's needed most.
Ventilated Disc Brakes
Stopping a moving vehicle is hard work. Every time the brake pads push against the rotors to slow your vehicle, an enormous amount of friction and heat is generated. If the brakes get too hot, however, it can reduce their effectiveness.
To prevent that from happening, the front brakes of the 2015 Toyota Highlander have ventilated discs. These discs can dissipate heat quickly and evenly away from the brakes.
Toyota Highlander's Advanced Airbag System
The Advanced Airbag System in the 2015 Toyota Highlander starts with driver and front passenger dual-stage airbags, driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags, and a driver knee airbag. The knee airbag is a clever way of helping to prevent lower body injuries - the most common type of injury experienced in a collision.
The airbag system also has a front passenger seat-cushion airbag and Roll-Sensing Side Curtain Airbags for all rows, helping to protect all of your passengers.
Child Safety in the Toyota Highlander
Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children - commonly referred to as LATCH - is a system that makes securing a child seat safer and easier. The outbound, second-row seats of the Toyota Highlander have lower anchors and tethers, while the middle seat in the second and third row both have tether anchors as well.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Standard on every 2015 Toyota Highlander, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System helps drivers keep an eye on tire pressure.
Tires that are underinflated can cause a loss in traction and control, making for dangerous driving conditions. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System continuously measures the air pressure of each tire to ensure they meet the manufacturer's specifications.
If one or more tires on the Toyota Highlander become critically underinflated, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System will alert the driver.
